If you are like most businesses, you assume that your data is backed  up nightly from the server. However, there is much more to a successful  backup than changing out the tape or external hard drive on a nightly  basis. The network administrator must understand where all critical data   is located on the network, and the processes required to capture the  data for archival. A procedure to safeguard this information must then  be implemented and the plan must be monitored with vigilance. All too  often, businesses don’t realize that critical information, application  data, email, or contact information was not captured with their backup, or their backups have stopped running, and their information is lost due  to a crash.
